I'm seeing some pretty mixed feedback. I've been hesitant to buy Rick's books lately because he seems to be coming out with poorer and poorer quality books. I didn't even buy the second book of the Trials of Apollo. I just didn't like the first book that much. It feels like Rick is writing less and less about mythological characters and more about his view of current issues and that everyone should share such views.
I mean, if the mythological part of the story gets the backburner to modern day issues, he should just write a normal, modern day setting book. That way, he can go full-fledged into his political commentary. He's hardly writing about mythology anymore. Half of the Hammer of Thor was about Alex's transgender status and Sam's religious beliefs.
So, I guess I'm asking is if Ship of the Dead is a real book or if it's a semi-decent story with thinly veiled political ideology for kids.
PS. I thought Mallory and Halfborn were a thing? What do you mean she likes Blitz? Also: Freakin' MALEX is canon but not Blitzstone? Whatever. I'm a bit salty but I'll live.
I absolutely agree. I am so sick of people making everything about politics. Politics have nothing to do with most of the things of our lives, and you have no business putting your political views into everything you do, especially not professionally, and that is exactly what Rick is doing and I'd wish he'd stop.
I want to enjoy a good book and not be revolted by something I just cannot get away from no matter how hard I try. But if you put that aside, the book itself isn't bad. It ended differently compared to how the previous series' have ended, and while I know most wouldn't like it, I did.
