A Thyrsus is a staff of giant fennel covered with ivy vines and leaves and topped with a pinecone. It is carried by Dionysus and his Maenads.
History[]
It was used by Dionysus in the Gigantomachy. He used it against Ephialtes and Otis in a war with Hercules.

A few of the Maenads, followers of Dionysus, are seen with thyrsi.
The Mark of Athena[]
Bacchus is shown with a thyrsus. After Percy and Jason fought Otis and Ephialtes, Bacchus finished them off with his thyrsus, reducing the twin giants to ashes. Afterwards, Bacchus states that he defeated the giants with the help of Percy and Jason.
