Willa Chu is the mother of Winston Chu.
History[]
At one point in her life, she met Philip Chu, an army translator, and the two married and had two daughters and one son. Their youngest child, Coco was born after her husband was killed by friendly fire. Two years later, she would lose her job a few months shy of the third anniversary of her husband’s death.

Winston Chu Versus the Whimsies[]
She cleans up from work as Philippa gets dinner ready and Winston plays with Coco. As they eat dinner, Winston asks her who of her three children resembles their father the most. She talks about traits all three children share with their father, but things start to get heated after Winston jokes about Philippa dropping out of both high school and college. Soon her old boss, Ned Gu, arrives with a banana cream pie, her husband’s favorite, and she asks Winston to get a lamp from upstairs for him.
The following day she helps Winston look for his missing soccer jersey and they are forced to leave without it. As they head to the game, Winston asks her to head to Boba Guys to find his lost key.
The following day she bake allergy friendly snickerdoodles for Coco's play date. She then asks Winston to read Coco The Cowheard and the Cloud Weaver. She finds Winston and Coco in Philippa's room and notices the broom and dustpan. Winston lies and says Cassa's father found them and Cassa thought they could give them to Mr. Gu. He tells her Coco is acting strange, but Coco acts normal around her. She and Coco leave just as Philippa comes back. She returns after Coco flushed legos and she and Philippa struggle to put Coco to bed. The following day she and Philippa argue over the car, with her needing it for an interview as Philippa needs it to go to Lodi, as “Coco” asks for milk. She has Winston get her some and scolds Winston for not getting “Coco” milk. Later that night Winston congratulates his mother on the second interview and convinces her to let Philippa have the car. After talking, Winston realizes how lonely she.
The following day when Mr. Gu comes over for dinner, she says the law firm she interviewed with is still deciding about Mr. Gu announces his plan to run for mayor. Winston suggests Philippa could help, but she kicks him under the table. As desert is brought out, she asks Winston to put “Coco” to bed. She and Philippa clean up and give the broom and dustpan to Mr. Gu bethel leaves, however Winston says he changed his mind and she agrees to call in the morning. When she does, she learn Mr. Gu was in a crash on the way home and he lost the broom and dustpan. After Einston rejects a drawing from “Coco”, she forces him to accept it. The following day she finds her laptop destroyed and blames Winston as his friends come by to pick him up for a movie. While Winston is at the movies, she calls a psychiatrist. The following day she goes grocery shopping with “Coco”, who causes havoc, and she calls Winston. Winston tells her he thinks Coco is possessed and she says she spoke with a psychiatrist and they think Winston might be angry at his father for dying.
In the morning, she finds “Coco” getting into the cleaning solution and has Winston hide it. Winston tells her he needs to go to the San Francisco Cooking Academy to interview Chef Kim for a school assignment. They wake Philippa to watch “Coco” before heading out, taking her laptop to get repaired. As they drive, Willa reveals she has been chosen as a top candidate for the interview and Philippa is going to work for Mr. Gu and start taking classes. She also suggests they should have a day out just as they reach the cooking academy. Winston tries to get her to leave and get her laptop fixed, but she insists she stay. As they fail to find Chef Kim, they find Dani. She finds the interaction suspicious, but leaves to get her laptop repaired. When she picks Winston up and they drive home, they return the a blackout. “Coco” cowers in the corner as Philippa lights candles upon their return. After Winston gets gum stuck in Philippa's hair, she helps her get it out. When she and Philippa finish, the power comes back on. Upon returning to the living room, they see “Coco” with the lighter and they accuse Winston of giving it to her. He tries to explain that “Coco” snatched it from him, but she orders him to go to his room.
In the morning, she learns she got the job. Willa starts that day, but is swamped with work and “Coco” draws on the walls of the daycare. She returns home to find Winston missing and when he returns with the McFee brothers, they say the went out for boba.
A week later, the Chus to to Coit Tower to watch the sunset. Winston gives his mother a unicorn horn to honor his father and she tells Philippa, Winston, and Coco that they inherited their father’s loyalty, thoughtfulness, and long thumbs respectively.
