Yeng is the caretaker, or arborist, of the Tree of Souls.
History[]
When Yeng was mortal, she was in love with her girlfriend Ka, they would spend hours together walking around the rice fields. One day Ka told her she met a princess who could solve all their problems. However she was suspicious and followed her girlfriend when she went to meet with the supposed princess. When she saw the princess, Yeng realized she was actually Nhia Ngao Zhua Pa, a shapeshifting trickster goddess. When she exposed the prank, the goddess trapped her in the Tree of Souls. When she found her way out, Ka was long gone and she devoted her time to caring for the tree.
Pahua Moua series[]
Pahua and the Soul Stealer[]
Pahua Moua sees her in a dream. Yeng notices the girl and realizes she is the reincarnation of Shee Yee. A day later Pahua comes to the tree and with Miv and Zhong Vang and she notices them. Believing she would not harm them, Pahua walks up to her and introduces herself as Shee Yee's reincarnation. Yeng says she knows and tells Zhong and Miv to leave. Zhong says she is on a mission for her school and momentarily hesitates when asked if she wants to be a shaman warrior. Pahua asks for the ax, but Yeng says she must find it herself. A new soul arrives as she switches it out for another soul. Pahua asks the caretaker why Shee Yee was reborn and she says a strong being came when she was away. She gives Pahua a locket with the trees only leaf to find the ax and heads into the tree with Zhong and Miv.
When Pahua and Zhong exit the tree and find Yeng, she comments on the damage Pahua made, and says cat spirits have no place in the tree when Pabua says Miv is missing and tells Zhong Spike was scared off by the dragons due to a rivalry between the two species when asked about the horse spirit. She comments on Pahua wearing her boots and mentions selling the girl’s sandals. Pahua begs her to tell her where Miv is but the arborist refuses. Pahua scolds Yeng for not helping. In response, Yeng says they can get the her brother if they pay a price and tells the girls hoe she came to care for the tree. Pahua returns the leaf as she goes back inside. However she comes back out when the girls find a lone Poj Ntxoog that can take them to Miv. She offers to lend them wind spirits to get them off her mountain faster.
Appearance[]
Yeng resembles a woman with black hair styled in a braid. She wears red rubber boots.
Personality[]
Yeng takes her job seriously and curses anyone who trespasses.
