Zeus is the Greek god of the sky, thunder, lightning, kingship, honor and justice and the king of the gods.
History[]
Zeus and his siblings overthrew their father Kronos and he, Poseidon and Hades divided the world between themselves.
After World War II, he and his brothers swore to not father anymore demigods due to a prophecy about one of their children either saving or destroying Olympus. In spite of this, Zeus fathered a daughter named Thalia Grace, who died defending her friends from monsters and he turned his daughter into a tree.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians (TV series)[]
Season One[]
“The Prophecy Comes True”[]
Percy Jackson confronts Zeus in the Throne Room and returns the Master Bolt. As Percy explains why he failed to return the Master Bolt on time, Percy states Kronos stole it and is plotting against the gods, but Zeus rebuffs him by saying his father is not a threat at the moment and focuses on his war against Poseidon and tells Percy to leave. However, Percy says his family is only loyal to Zeus through fear and that any of them could betray him at any moment. As Zeus is about to strike Percy, Poseidon arrives and saves the demigod by surrendering to his brother. Poseidon begs Zeus to spare Percy and compares his son to Thalia. After conversing in Ancient Greek, Zeus backs down and calls a council of the gods before vanishing.
Appearance[]
Zeus appears as a tall African American man. He dresses in a dark blue suit.
Personality[]
Zeus is extremely prideful, stubborn, and fierce. Even after Percy returns the bolt and reveals the threat of Kronos, Zeus insists that Kronos is no threat and sought to continue his war with Poseidon. It was only after Poseidon officially surrendered to him that Zeus called off the war. Zeus is very quick to anger, as when Percy tried to explain the mess his family was in, Zeus tried to use his just returned Master Bolt on him. He is not without some honor, as he did offer Percy the chance to leave Olympus alive instead of killing him as soon as he got the bolt.

Trivia[]
- Lance Reddick's appearance as Zeus in "The Prophecy Comes True" is his final television appearance due to Lance Reddick's death. Lance died only about four to six weeks after shooting the episode.[1]
- According to Dan Schotz, while preparing for his role as Zeus, Lance "just kept saying, "This book, it's Shakespearean!" He kept using the word "Shakespearean," and feeling that pressure of, "I'm in this high-end play - I need to deliver gravitas." He put a lot of pressure on himself even in the short time we had with him. He understood what he was a part of, and the importance of it. It says everything about him as an actor. He just brought it."[1]
- Jon Steinberg stated that "we wanted Zeus to be someone who needs to be constantly convincing himself that everything is fine and under control. That felt like it came with a little bit of theater, a little bit of projection of his own authority, but also a sense of real presence. When you take all of those ideas and start looking for a person who embodies them, they just start to look like Lance. He is so - was so regal, and able to convey so many different things at the same time. To stand on stage and do a very theatrical monologue, but feel so grounded. The population of actors who can do those things, and then also just be the sweetest person and great with the kids he's acting with - heartbreaking is the right word. It was a perfect fit in a very hard-to-fit role, and he went way too soon."[1]
