Grover translates for Hecuba and Gale for Percy and Annabeth. However, he is unable to understand Annabeth when she's transformed into a half-owl.
After becoming half-octopus, Percy seemingly gains the ability to understand what Gale is saying. A surprised Percy guesses that he's either starting to understand Polecat or he's hallucinating from the six thousand magic chemicals in the air. After being cured, Percy loses the ability to understand what Gale's saying.
